GUIDE TO HIKING & CAMPING IN THE SWISS ALPS

Welcome to the new section of my blog where I would like to tell you more about my travel, this time hiking, adventures (and of course tell what vegan food options there are when going camping in the mountains).

As a kid I used to really hate hiking - growing up in Austria we (of course) went hiking quite often, I just never enjoyed walking up a hill to see some view and then going down again. All changed when (as with so many things) became older (and wiser?). Now I really love to enjoy time in the mountains, discover new trekking paths and spend the night in nature.

We did this particular hike back in May (when the weather was better than June - so sad). It was in canton Schwyz and not a specific summit (there are so many paths, you cross several summit crosses). I really enjoyed the silence, far away from crowded places and not seeing any other human beings than us.

On the top, we cooked fresh pasta (we brought all the ingredients + water) on a camp stove (note the very functional Swiss pocket cutlery - never saw something like this before haha) and in the morning enjoyed our overnight oats, which we prepared at home.

When walking downhill we even saw some sheep who were brought up the mountain - Almauftrieb/ mountain grazing - never saw this (and modern shepherd with EarPods) before!

When looking back at the pictures of the beautiful landscape I already want to go back on a mountain - unfortunately, the weather here in Switzerland is currently not ideal for hiking/ camping, but hopefully I can soon again share more hiking adventure stories and pictures with you :)
