MY 20 (SECRET) TIPS FOR YOUR PERFECT TIME IN CANGGU, BALI

1. Rest and recharge at beautiful pool spots
Although Canggu is next to the ocean, the sea is not very inviting often and so I would recommend to chill at some nice pool places instead. There’re of course multiple beautiful pool spots around Canggu, my favorite one’s are Ketala Eatery, Boheme Canggu, Suksma Kitchen and Tribal. The last one is actually also a co-working so you can change from the pool to the laptop within minutes and live the cliché of a digital nomad in Bali.

2. Flow in yoga classes
Although there are of course many different yoga studios available across Canggu, my favorite classes have been the one’s by Paul Teodo and Byron de Marsé at Radiantly Alive (above bwork) as well as at the Path. If you are considering to attend more classes, make sure to get your credits on ClassPass for a better deal. You can use my code here for a free first trial too!

3. Get pampered and enjoy beauty treatments
You can treat yourself to so many amazing spa and wellness treatments especially in Canggu so I wanted to highlight my favorite spots for you. For massage, flower bath & other treatments the new Beach House Massage by Tonic is really my favorite. When it comes to high-quality nails and plant-based biab treatments I would highly recommend Rosie’s nail bar. Also the new Maja Spa is offering amazing pilates and breathwork classes as well as beauty treatments - I love their facials as well! Btw. you can also book facials, massages on ClassPass (use my code here for a free first trial) too!

4. Do a pottery class
If you want to bring a special souvenir or gift from the island and if you’re staying for at least two weeks in Bali (because that’s the time the ceramics need in order to dry) then maybe you want to consider attending a pottery class? We organized a ceramics workshop at the beautiful Vagabond Design Lab and made our own little coffee cups in a 2-3h long ceramic class - a special gift for sure!

5. Enjoy your Sunday at Udara
The best Sunday morning routine in Canggu is to drive a bit “further” (around 15 minutes haha) to the beautiful Udara healing resort. Every Sunday there is an incredible program starting at 09:00 with an opening ceremony, meditation, yoga, ecstatic dance, sound healing and a closing circle. You will finish around 2pm but you can continue with a delicious vegetarian/ vegan brunch buffet or enjoy the breathtaking spa area. At the time of writing the whole morning program until 2pm was only 150k, so around 9€ and besides the really good price, the Udara Sunday is just such a beautiful routine to end the week. Make sure to check out their schedule and get the tickets beforehand on their website.

6. Book a special Italian dinner experience
If you are looking for a really unique night to remember, book your table (in advance!) at Sa Mesa. You will sit next to strangers at a massive table (guess what was first the table or the windows?) but will leave with new friends. The food was amazing and is served in a sharing tapas concept. Don’t enjoy too much of the delicious antipasti and pasta as there are also main courses and of course dessert (if you are not already dancing on the table). And did I already mention the free flow of limoncello all night long? At the time of writing, there are two locations (one in Canggu and one in Seminyak).

7. Visit the Sunday markets for gifts and cakes
After you’ve enjoyed the Sunday morning routine at Udara (see above), I would highly recommend to check out the beautiful Sunday markets at Samadi and la Brisa. The first one is a bit smaller, but still worth visiting and buying for example some scent sticks or delicious cake. The la Brisa market is slightly bigger and offers next to food stands also a lot of clothing, souvenirs and organic small gifts such as soaps etc.

8. Join a breathwork cycle
If you have never tried out breathwork before (like me before Bali), then I would highly recommend to visit Breathwork Bali. You will have a unique experience which is hard to describe. What is certain though is that there will be around 5-7 other people while you will be well looked after from almost the same amount of trained breathwork instructors. My personal experience was really beautiful and I really enjoyed the two hour long session. Make sure to book your slot in advance as the breathwork cycle is quite popular.

9. Take a local Balinese cooking class
If you want to learn how to prepare the delicious food you might have already enjoyed in the local Warungs, I can highly recommend to take a cooking class in Bali. There are multiple options according to your needs, we decided to go for a fully vegan cooking class, which was held privately. If you are interested I can forward you the contact, just write me an e-mail or hit me up via Instagram!

10. Make sure to watch the sunset - daily
One of the only appointments per day (maybe the only one?) in Canggu for everyone is for sure to watch the sunset at the beach. You simply do not meet anyone aside from for a sunset coconut between 5:30 - 6:30 - that’s reserved for sunset! My favorite spot are the stairs to the left of la Brisa. Simply drive to the end of the road (with your coconut), park your scooter and enjoy a breathtaking sunset.

11. Get one fresh coconut a day
One thing our philosophy teacher really enforced during our yoga teacher training was to get at least one coconut a day. Not only do you refresh yourself with enjoying them but they are also high in electrolytes and a natural water source (compared to the bottled water). The best & cheapest ones around Canggu are at “fresh whole young coconut”, simply look for it on Google Maps.

12. Go to the local fruit shop
Have you ever had a really fresh mango? What about mangosteen, dragonfruit, durian, boni, soursop, rambutan or snakeskin fruit? Discover all of these delicious fresh fruits at the local market, the best one is “Lummbbung Pangan” where you can also by the way find oats, seeds, nuts etc. in bulk for you to buy.

13. Prepare your own tropical breakfast
After you’ve visited the local market you might want to create your own tropical breakfast! For that I wrote down two delicious recipes: healthy tropical oats with dragonfruit (find the recipe here) and a quick pink tropical chia pudding (find the recipe here). However, your imagination is limitless, just experiment with the fruits and local ingredients.

14. Get some work done
If you are working remotely or doing some classes/ studies online you want to find a spot where you can really focus well without being disturbed. There are a lot of nice co-workings around Canggu with different focus areas such as Kinnship Studio for more a creative vibe or my favorite one, bwork, where young professionals and entrepreneurs meet. In my blogpost here I summarized my favorite 5 co-workings for digital nomads. Also there are multiple coffee-shops which are work friendly. I highlighted the best ones in my experience in the blog post here.

15. Sign up for the gym & sport classes
If you want to work-out in Canggu you will soon notice that the available gyms are pretty expensive compared to maybe European prices and the other costs of living in Bali. Thus, I also usually use my ClassPass credits for some Gym drop-ins (Obsidian, Nirvana etc.). You can use my code here for a free first trial.

16. Try out new sport classes
Canggu is really the best place for trying out new sport classes. You can obviously take surf lessons on the beach or go to the gym (see where to go in the tip above), but what I really loved was to step out of my comfort zone and try out new sport classes such as Reformer Pilates at Pilates Project, Revive & Pilates and KOR pilates. I also really like to join the Zycle classes and HIT group gym workouts be Power + Revive. There are many trial options available so just check out their websites in case you’re interested in joining one of them. Again my recommendation is to use ClassPass for the sessions for a better price (use my code here).

17. Meet other digital nomads
It is so easy to get to know other likeminded digital nomads in Bali! You simply can check out the events on Nomeo (here is the website) and choose what event is best for you. Also you can literally meet everyone who is in Canggu every Friday at Blacksand Brewery. Moreover, there are monthly meet-ups and you can obviously also meet other nomads in co-workings or your favorite sport classes easily.

18. Check out the (vegan) food deals
There are endless amazing restaurants and coffee shops around Canggu. For me, Cocomo is one of my favorite spots for their breakfast promo especially because of the super kind owner Wawi. On Wednesdays there is a vegan pizza promo at Kasto, but there are so many deals happening every day so check out all of my favorite ones in Canggu & Pererenan in my dedicated blog post here.

19. Try my favorite vegan food spots
Bali is just a brunch heaven come true! Still there are high differences in the quality and prices of the endless brunch options, especially when it comes to vegan breakfast. Our absolute favorite spot are the best smoothie bowls at the hidden place the sloth. Still there are so many more, so check out my favorite brunch spots in Canggu and Pererenan in my blogpost here.

20. Buy some organic groceries and nice gifts
If you want to buy some organic groceries, gifts or also raw and vegan desserts I highly recommend you to check out the cute little shops around Canggu such as Alive, Bali Buda (there are multiple locations) or Bokashi. You will find everything you need and you can also shop the groceries packaging free in the quantitiy that you need.
