PANORAMA HIKE FROM STOOS TO FRONALPSTOCK
One of my favorite hikes has been (so far) definitely the breathtaking panorama hike from Stoos to the Klingenstock and then the ridge hiking trail to the Fronalpstock in the Swiss canton Schwyz. In total the hike takes 5,5h (without calculating for a longer break at the top) depending on if you are taking another chairlift or hiking the whole part.
After taking the "steepest funicular railway in the world" in Schwyz-Stoos, you arrive in the car-free mountain village Stoos which is the start of your hiking experience. From there you hike approximately up 2h to the Klingenstock. However, you can also just walk around 10 minutes and shorten the ascent to the Klingenstock and take the chairlift up the mountain. This is the “least” appealing part of the hike but you are rewarded afterwards with the start of the ridge trail walk!
Make sure to bring enough warm clothes as we definitely were not well prepared for the wind on top. Although it might be super hot in the valley, the wind at the ridge walk can be quite intense. As you can see on the pictures I wasn’t well equipped at all with my summer shorts and thin T-Shirt - well, well.
The ridge walk is really well maintained and when we went up (which was during the week as we took a day off from work), there were even some people repairing parts of the path. It might seem as if the ridge walk can be also dangerous but I was actually never afraid during the hike - and I’m a bit afraid of heights to be honest!
My favorite part was, besides the ridge walk with the amazing view over the “Vierwaldstättersee” (here it is actually already called “Urnersee” in some parts). This lake is stretching over the Swiss cantons Uri, Schwyz, Unterwalden and Luzern and since I’ve been in Luzern for the first time some years ago and saw this lake and the beautiful alp panorama for the first time I was thrilled. Actually I would say that the Vierwaldstättersee is one of my favorite lakes (Zürisee of course forever #1) in Switzerland especially because of the great hiking possibilities around it.
What’s your favorite hike in Switzerland/ Austria/ your home country?
Have you ever been to the canton Schwyz?
I’m looking forward to hearing from you!
Lots of love,
Magda
You can also find a detailed map here.
As you can see there are many more options to enjoy the beautiful scenery in the Stoos-Muotatal!
Let me know if you try any other tour, I would love to go for another hike in this amazing area! :)
