THE PERFECT SHORT WINTER DAY TRIP IN AUSTRIA
Usually, I love to get away to warmer places in winter but this time I spent my holidays like so many others at home. In the beginning, I wasn’t expecting anything special, but then as we started planning our time in Austria/ back home I was getting more and more excited! There are actually so many places around my home which I have never been and always wanted to go! As my boyfriend is from Switzerland I was even more excited to show him “my” beautiful country. As the weather was also perfect we took the car and went on a short winter day trip close to Hinterstoder, namely near to the “Schiedweiher”.
What I especially liked about this short hike was that we just escaped the crowd. The “normal” route is around the lake “Schiederweiher” so you will most likely meet a lot of people, especially on a Sunday. We thus decided to take another path from the “Polsterstüberl” in the direction of the “Großer Priel” (See Screenshot below). You can walk basically as long as you want uphill and the same path back. The further you get up, the better the view is getting over the mountains! Afterwards or before you can still, of course, enjoy the usual path around the small Schiederweiher, but we enjoyed the secret path even more than the popular small lake!
Are you team active or lazy in winter? I would not say I am 100% lazy or active, it just depends on the day and weather (always a great excuse, the weather I mean ;) ) However, I love to enjoy time outside especially in the woods when there is fresh snow and ideally some sun - it can’t get any better! Packed into my warmest clothes, a big scarf and my favourite hat (& gloves!) I was ready for a nice day outside. But wait, did I tell you about my shoes? Well as I have forgotten my winter boots back home, I had no other choice but to wear my Chelsea boots with thick socks. Very clever right? Well, after 2-3h in the snow my shoes and socks were completely wet and I was very much looking forward to the heating in the car ;)
If you are every in Upper Austria, I can really recommend this short day trip we did from Linz. It was really beautiful in winter as the mountains were covered in snow and the lake almost frozen, but I am sure it is also wonderful in summer! Maybe you can even than swim in the lake if it is not too cold! :)
Have you ever been to Austria, Upper Austria or the Schiederweiher hike?
Do you have any recommendations for beautiful getaways around your home town which you want to share?
Let me know if you are ever trying my recommendation for the short winter day trip :)
Lots of love,
