Have you ever heard of the Malaysian town, Ipoh? Located in the northwestern part of Malaysia, the town is often overlooked by tourists driving straight to the Cameron Highlands. The third biggest city of Malaysia offers picturesque architectures, beautiful street art and lots of heritage.

Ipoh is easily to be discovered by foot and is divided into an old and new town by the river Kinta. There is a great food scene with more and more plant-based and vegan places opening up. Also, Chinese dumplings are very popular so you can find them literally everywhere.

In my guide I’m sharing my fav vegan food finds in this cute little town, which you can easily discover in one day. Thus, I would recommend to stay for two nights before either heading down to Kuala Lumpur or up to Georgetown/ the Highlands.

Lots of love,
Magda

My favorite (vegan) food & coffee spots in Ipoh

  • Gut Flora
If you’re looking for healthy and delicious food/ breakfast this is the place you should go to in Ipoh. In particular the vegan pancakes with berries and date syrup were so delicious and also the turmeric latte was so comforting and tasty! Although the prices are a bit higher than in “regular” restaurants, I would really recommend to check out this vegan dream for brunch!

  • Chen Ee Vegetarian Food
After a long day walkig and exploring the city, you might also crave an authentic and cheap meal (6RM which is around 1.30€). You can choose between all the toppings/ ingredients for your soup (I have no idea what was in them haha) and everything is vegan/ vegetarian.

  • Cold Blue Specialty Coffee
My special skill to find high quality speciality coffee in literally any place in the world has shown itself again finding this hidden gem in Ipoh. The coffee was so so so good and the coffeeshop was also really perfect to rest after walking around town and getting some work done. They also serve some treats such as cakes & sandwiches which you can enjoy in their comfortable café.
