FLAXSEED AND CHIA SEED CRISPS

I love to try out new unconventional recipes and adapt them a bit. A few weeks ago the Zeit Magazin had a special edition dedicated to cooking at home featuring the favorite recipes of famous restaurants. One of those was the recipe for fluxes crisps with starch, which I have never seen before!

So I really wanted to try the crisps myself and thought, if it works with flaxseed it must also work with chia seeds! I looked into my fridge for potential dips, except the hummus I always have prepared for my daily consumption (can you eat too much hummus?) found a ripe (rare moment!) avocado and quickly prepared guacamole.

I adapted the original recipe and served the crisps with the dips as an appetizer. I don’t want to spoil you but these quick, gluten-free crisps will definitely be prepared more often in my kitchen! :)

They are also perfect as a snack next to binge-watching your favourite series (let me know which one you love at the moment!!) and I am sure they are also delicious when flavoured with chili or fresh herbs. I will definitely try this next time!

RECIPE FOR FLAXSEED AND CHIA SEED CRISPS

  • 2 tablespoon chia seeds + 8 tablespoon water + 1 teaspoon guar gum

  • 2 tablespoon flaxseed + 8 tablespoon water + 1 teaspoon guar gum

  1. Mix the flaxseed and chia seed with the water and guar gum and let it soak for approximately 20 minutes

  2. Preheat the oven to 150° fan setting

  3. Roll out the mixture on baking paper (it should be quite thin but with no holes)

  4. Bake the crisps for approximately 20 minutes

  5. Remove the baking paper and break the crackers however you like

  6. Serve with dips or on their own

  7. Enjoy!
