VEGAN BIRTHDAY BEACH PICNIC IN MEXICO
As I celebrated my birthday this year in Mexico with this vegan beach picnic as the best surprise, I wanted to share some pictures from this special day. Who knows, maybe you are in Puerto Escondido someday and want to gift something special to a loved one?
So, this was actually the very first time, that I spent my birthday abroad. Well actually I think I celebrated my 12th birthday or so in Germany (not my choice back then), but with abroad I mean really far away from home. Like enjoying good weather, when it is raining cats and dogs at home (my birthday is mid of may, where the “ice holy/ Eisheiligen” are and the weather is usually rather proposing to spend the day inside).
Of course, this birthday was even more special as I was able to enjoy not only the sun, but also swim in the ocean, eat tropical fruits (smoothie bowl for breakfast, which my boyfriend would rather call a “snack”) and tip my toes in the send - being on vacation on your birthday will definitely be something I want to do more often (à la every year).
But the highlight of the day was the surprise my boyfriend gifted me in the evening. I really had no clue at all what will happen and he made a perfect fool out of me. Right before we headed to the surprise, he wanted to reassure if I liked horses. Well, I mean horses are nice but I actually never really went horse riding and it was certainly not on top of my (birthday) to do list. I also remembered, that Airbnb was suggesting sunset horse riding as an activity - did my boyfriend really knew me that bad? As I really didn’t want to destroy his surprise I just said “sure, horses are nice” and mentally prepared for going horse riding.
We then drove to an isolated beach and I saw people preparing a super beautiful beach picnic. I said to him “wow is that the birthday surprise?”. But he played it cool and faked a phone call which told us to “come to the red truck”. I was confused. Horse riding? Red truck? Or beach picnic?
After some minutes he could not play his horse riding/ red truck game anymore and asked me if I wanted to come to enjoy a vegan beach picnic with him. YES, YES, YES! The picnic was beautifully arranged with vegan food, cooled drinks, cute pillows, romantic candles, chilled music - basically everything that you would imagine in a romantic beach picnic dream. He choose the vegan food according to my preferences so there was a falafel and hummus plate, a vegan mango avocado ceviche and of course guacamole. There was even a vegan birthday cake with candles, we almost finished it ( I think I had 3 slices - but that’s ok on your birthday I guess).
Watching the sunset while enjoying a beach picnic was really the best I could have imagined for my birthday (we did see the horses from the sunset riding activity while we were enjoying our food - good choice for the picnic, I would have probably fallen of haha). I think it was such a cute surprise and can only recommend it to anyone - no matter if you are (celebrating) at home or somewhere else. There are several companies organizing those picnics, my boyfriend found it via Instagram.
